Our Statement of Purpose

• We meet once a month in the home of a member to systematically study the scriptures in a much deeper way.
• We use an assigned text, looking at the whole of scripture and other world/religious views; we are assigned monthly homework questions for discussion.
• Discussion will be limited to that of the material covered in the text and purposeful instruction, avoiding distractive arguements and focusing primarily on our individual growth and encouraging everyone in scriptural strength in our understanding of the Christian life.

Why do we feel it is so important?

1. Because the Bible instructs us to know it in a deeper way:
   "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2 Timothy 2:15
   
2. Because God expects us to be ready for authoritative witnessing opportunities:
   "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." - 1 Peter 3:15
3. Because man is fallible and we must remain true to the words of God, not merely men alone:
   "But these were more noble-minded... for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see whether these things were so." - Acts 17:11
   
4. Because we are all responsible for the spreading of the Gospel:
   "Go and make disciples... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:19
   

Finally, Jesus Christ had an irrefutable knowledge and command of the Old Testament Scriptures and it is clear that he spent a great deal of time learning, debating and teaching the scriptures. In our pursuit of the way Christ lived, this ought to be our distinctive habit as believers.

I hope to lead everyone in searching for a deeper level of understanding and help us grow out of spiritual adolescence and into true spiritual maturity as capable ministers of God.
